Camp FAQs

Where is The Crow Comedy Camp located?

We are located at the Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA. 2525 Michigan Avenue, Unit F4 - Santa Monica, CA 90404. We’re right off the 10 freeway at the Cloverfield Blvd. exit. We’re also right at the 26th St. / Bergamot Station stop of the Metro Expo Line.

What are the age requirements?

Currently, The Crow Comedy Camp is accepting campers ages 7 - 12.

This is my camper’s first day at The Crow Comedy Camp. What if they don’t know anyone?

We start every day with ice breakers meant to introduce campers to one another and get to know each other better. Our counselors have many years of combined experience working with kids of all ages in camps and theatre programs, so they’re great at creating a welcoming and nurturing environment.

What are the hours of camp?

The Crow Comedy Camp is from 9:00am - 3:00pm every day. Unfortunately, early drop off or late pick up are not currently offered.

What is the drop off / pick up protocol?

We will have a counselor in the southwest corner of the Bergamot parking lot to greet your campers in the morning for drop off, and they’ll be waiting with the campers in the same spot for pick up in the afternoon.

What if I have to reach my child in an emergency?

You can call The Crow at (424) 322-8017 or email us at one of the following emails: mickey@crowcomedy.com or nicole@crowcomedy.com. You can also find us in the Crow space, at Gandara Park, or at Ishihara Park.

What should my camper bring each day?

Each camper should bring a lunch (unless ordering from Bergamot Cafe - details below), snacks, a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, a notebook and a writing utensil. Please label everything with your camper’s full name.

What about lunch?

Your camper should bring their own lunch and snacks for the day.

What does a typical camp day look like?

After drop off, we begin each day with ice breakers and warm ups. We’ll often have an interactive lesson or sample of comedy in the morning to help campers understand different comedy styles and develop their own comedic voice. We’ll have a mid-morning snack, then participate in some physical games and activities to keep the creative juices flowing. We’ll participate in some exercises and games to get kids used to the stage and develop their stage presence. We’ll take time out to write material, sculpt our jokes and share ideas and suggestions with each other. Time will also be spent playing improvisational and performance games. Throughout the week, students will have opportunities to develop, practice and refine their final performance.

Are all of your staff vaccinated?

Yes, all of our staff members are vaccinated.

What is The Crow Comedy Camp doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses at camp?

As part of The Crow Comedy Camp’s standard health and safety operating procedures , we work to reduce the spread of communicable illness or disease through regular, rigorous hand washing and cleaning, as well as ensuring that campers or staff who are unwell stay home to get well.

Additionally, our counselors will now adopt the following daily protocols:

  • Wipe down all shared equipment and spaces using disinfectant spray.

  • Avoid high-fives, handshakes and hugs and adjust games and celebrations to decrease person-to-person transmission.

  • Wash hands regularly and oversee the hand-washing of every camper before lunch, snacks and after using the restroom.

  • If we identify a camper who is not feeling well, we will immediately contact the family to pick up their child and separate that child from the rest of the campers and counselors. They will remain with the camp administrator until they are picked up.

My child has severe allergic reactions. How does The Crow Comedy Camp handle this?

If your child has a severe allergy, we ask that you speak directly with Mickey or Nicole on your child’s first day of camp to discuss the specifics with him/her.

It is helpful to have the information in writing if possible so we can have the information on hand if needed. Please be sure to include it in the medical form section when completing your child’s camp registration.

While we do not regularly provide snacks for our campers, there are occasions when we do give out small camp-wide treats and while we try to be mindful of food allergies when selecting these snacks, we cannot guarantee they will be suitable for your child.

Please discuss this with your child and your Counselor so everyone is clear on your child’s particular allergies.

What is the procedure for Epi-pens at The Crow Comedy Camp?

If your child has an Epi-pen, we ask that you put it in a plastic bag clearly labeled with your child’s name, date of birth, your name, and your phone number.

Epi-pens are stored in a temperature controlled cooler.

You may either check it in and out with your Counselor each day your child attends camp or, if more convenient, you may leave it with us during the duration of your child’s camp dates and pick it up on your child’s last day of camp.

Mickey and Nicole (who have a child with an Epi-pen) are both fully trained on the administration of Epi-pens and our First Aid supplies (including Epi-pens) are always within reach.

*If Epi-pens are left at camp beyond your child’s enrollment dates we will attempt to contact you.

If the Epi-pen is not picked up by the end of the camp season, it will be disposed of.

Who is teaching my kid comedy?

Nicole Blaine is an accomplished stand-up comedian and educator with several years of experience working with children in schools and camps. Mickey Blaine has been teaching theatre for 17 years, and before that he was a day camp director for four years, following several years counseling in a variety of activities. Our counselors have all worked with children in performing arts programming.
